I am aware that this will not be a ground-breaking take as the beauty of movies and girlhood is the understanding that while we all lead uniquely different lives we share the human experience.
The first quarter of Nosferatu was a bit slow and boring for me. I might have fallen asleep for about ten minutes and missed a few moments, but the movie started to pick up for me when Lily Rose Trenchoat began to be very ill while her man was away. I felt uncomfortable and intrigued as I watched her contort and also took a mental note about how I would never allow someone to stay in my house for an extended time whilst being tortured by evil spirits. So, kudos to the family of the gentleman played by that guy married to that old lady for being so generous and kind.
My epiphany happened while watching NOSFERATU’s ugly demonic ass interacting with cutie porcelain doll (adjective), Ellen, and thought whoa, I know EXACTLY what is happening here (by the way, I was not familiar with the story of Nosferatu at all so reader, you might be like NO SHIT?). I completely saw myself in this story when Lily Rose Trenchcoat was saying that she wanted love so badly that she had called out to Nosferatu and she didn’t know why she was drawn to him but she was! and it made her feel disgusting and evil… I was like
It was a mirror. That was the moment in the movie in which I began to see Thomas differently as well because at first, I was like meh, he was giving me loser vibes. BUT NO! He still loves her even though she had a past that she felt was strange, and shameful, a past in which she even questioned her morality. Love winsssss!
SO Ellen, I also have been attracted to terrible spirits that had an unexplainable hold on me! Ellen, you are not alone! You are just a girl who has not gone to therapy yet! and by the way ELLEN! My therapist told me that our pasts are not “bad”, they just are. They just exist. That’s it!! I love you, Ellen!
So yeah, I started Nosferatu by being like what the hell am I watching to then ending with Whoa! I have met a few Nosferatus in my life but luckily I didn’t die after having sex with them. LOLz
